Shape selection tool

This tool is conjunction of the Shape tool with the Selection meta-tool and can be used to create selections (image masks) with arbitrary shape.

I can't identify the Shape Selection Tool from among the icons at top of screen. This is my first time use and I wish to isolate an object from its background. How is this done?
