icon sizes

I downloaded your eval copy of realworld icon editor. I created a .gif file about 400 x 400 and used your image to icons feature and it made a very nice .ico file for me. When I put the .ico file on my desktop, it says it is 16 x 16 but it looks really nice, it looks more like a 32 x 32 to me. When I attach it to an internet shortcut, the shortcut arrow covers a letter in my icon. I don't really want to get rid of the arrow so I thought I would just move my icon over a little and leave some blank space for the arrow to cover but then the icon looks a little too small. How can i get it to use the 32 x 32 or the 48 x 48 format so that I don't have to resort to making an executable file on the desktop.

Hi,

the editor by default creates icons with sizes 16x16, 32x32, and 48x48 pixels (you can of course reconfigure it to create different sizes, but these are the standard ones). When Windows displays the icon, it automatically picks an image that is closest to the required size. Desktop icons are by default 32x32 pixels, but you can change this using the Display control panel (it is a bit buried, I do not know the exact English names, but I guess it is on Appearance tab, under Advanced button).

Don't be alarmed when Windows says the icon is 16x16, it reports the size of the last image of the icon. You may evantually choose to save the icon with images in inverse order at the bottom of the Save dialog in editor, but there is no reason to do so in your case.
