to the rri format?

I know RealWorld Graphics has its own Raster Image format, *.rri.

Why in the world do you? The only major plus is that it's capable of Alpha Channel, but *.png can do that just as well. Is there some hidden feature that makes *.rri special?

Just wondering.

Currently the advantages are minimal. It can hold up to 4-dimensional image data, not just 2-dimensional. But there are currently very few options how to create or edit more than 2-dimensional images.

The main reason why it is there is because all the other image formats are optional (plug-ins) and there must always be at least one image format available.
