If you are not OSSAgent you should add link to the original set to the description of your set and set the license to CC-BY as the original.

I realize that this is your first set but it bothers me that you used another person's cursor set and just added a few more cursors.
I hope you asked if they would have any objections to your doing this with their work? I still find this effort less than appropriate.
It is amazing to me that you would seek praise for such an endeavor in the first place. Why not create your own cursor set with your own art work?

If the license of the original set allows it, it is OK to build upon it and improve it. There is no need to ask the original author (although it certainly would be polite) - some of these people would be hard to reach at this time.
No work of art stands alone, every artist gets their inspiration from somewhere. The better the artist the less obvious is the connection. While I agree that it is better to do larger leaps, it is perfectly OK to do smaller steps when one begins.
