Like the simple straight forward approach!

Wish: Implement a gapless mode for images with different aspect ratios.
e.g. Irfanview puts the pictures together side by side without a gap (and only in this way)
Could be done as an additional "rearrangement".

Sorry, forgot the way to handle different aspect ratios:
1. if height differs, scale to same height for arrangement "all in single row" -> results in wider or narrower appearance for treated picture
2. if width differs, scale to same width for arrangement "all in single column" -> results in higher or lower appearance for treated picture

It would be good to create proof sheets - grab all images in a folder(s), arrange as thumbnails in a grid and save. If too many photos, create multiple sheets. User can specify how many thumbnails per sheet. Of course, don't keep original resolutions for thumbnails.

This is fantastic - thank you! I've been having the hardest time finding software that will let me arrange/rearrange images in a grid. I'm making a quilt, and with 36 12" blocks it's not practical to lay them out on the floor and rearrange them until I'm happy with the layout, so I've been trying to do it on the computer with photos of the blocks. I kept finding collage software that wouldn't do what I wanted it to do. This is exactly what I needed.

Great when it works! Tends to crash on "Save" with C++ library message :-

"Runtime Error
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way"

I can't see any pattern as to when it crashes, some saves are OK; some crash.

I'm running XP 32 Prof fully updated.

Perhaps you are using too many images and run out of memory?

I don't think so. I have 2.7GB free when I start to add pics. These are jpg format and typically 3.25 to 3.75MB each. Up to about 6 pics seems to generally save OK but 7 or more generally crashes during the save function.(After the program and 6 pics in memory I still have 2.388GB free).
Possibly, and more likely, a memory limitation of the C++ model that you are using?
Whatever the reason your program should handle the problem / exception better than this. Crashing is not an acceptable way to handle exceptions of any type.

It is a 32-bit built, so there is ~2GB address space limit. The program needs to have the pictures unpacked and if they are like 12 megapixel each, that is ~40MB in memory per picture. And then it needs another continuous chunk of memory for the whole picture. 500MB total still looks OK, so who knows... As I said originally I'm using XP32 so I doubt that I can run 64 bit programs.

You are right, 64-bit Windows is needed for the 64-bit version. In that case there is little I can do except trying to re-write the tool to be more efficient, which would not be easy. Displaying an error message instead of crashing would also be possible, but you still would not be able to join the images.

But it would be more professional and at least then you could give the option to reduce the number of pictures in the grid rather than losing everything.Or better still give a warning during the "edit" stage to say the number of picuters is being exceeded.

Love the rearrange button where you can cycle through layouts.

Please add some "negative" margins, or ability for custom presets,

and default filenames (templates) for easy saving.

Or dont't, it's practically perfect 😉

I like the ability to collect images from different locations, playing well together with everything search. I (as a developer) can also imagine this as a good tool to choose icons from big collections like fugue or eclipse.

here are more feature ideas... adjustable background color / order by filename/path / drag mode to copy the file from original location to target folder, maybe including resizing / more file formats (gif, bmp, ico) / saving/loading images filelists (to review the same selection/collection later again) / limit max visible number of images, then scroll

This is a really nice application! Although, if I used 2D game sprites on this, it looks like a sprite sheet editor.

😉 Exactly what I needed. I was trying to print a large (huge) banner containing many equally sized images in Corel Paint... what was I thinking? Corel couldn't handle the large canvas size and was stuck. I donated, and would more if I could.

Margins are 0 by default, but you of course need to have all images with the same size. I am not really sure, how layout saving would work. Could you describe your typical usage scenario?

Is there a program like this that then saves all images SEPERATLY back to the original ones

It lowers resolution when images are big size. Anyway to leave them same size and just merge toguether with no quality loss?

It should only adjust size if the source image have different sizes.

How do I change the sequence, or positioning of the added photos (ie I want #3 to move to #6 and vice versa)?

Exactly what i was searching for

This program is amazing! I hope some more advanced features get added like:

- Manually setting margin size. [In Pixels ]
- manual rearrange options. [Number of Rows, Columns]
- Photo alignment options. [left, right, center.]
- JPG compression selection.
- Options to scale/set desired output size to a given Height or width

I am only able to add 11 pictures on at a time. Any more than that makes it crash

I'd also be interested in adding some feature if it went open source, as for what:

#1 Auto extend/crop to a selected image: That way perfect grids could be made by selecting the image you want to be used as the base size.

#2 User setable margins.
#2.5 Option for true 0 or user set margins between images, even on miss matched images:
#2.75 Options to auto sort images by ratio, height or width

#3 Option for outer border.

#4 Option to set background color.

#5 Option to place in grid, but not auto resize images.
